North Sulawesi Manado

The he capital city of the North Sulawesi is Manado  located at the Bay of Manado, its the second largest city in Sulawesi, the name Manado wich is derived from the ‘minahasan’ language comes from the word manadou or wanazou meaning “on the far coast”, Meanwhile, the Spanish had already set themselves up in the Philippines and Minahasa was used to plant coffee that came from South America because of its rich soil. Manado was further developed by Spain as a center of commerce for the Chinese traders who traded the coffee in China. 


Spain renounced to her possessions in Minahasa by means of a treaty with the Portuguese in return for a payment of 350,000 ducats.Minahasan natives made an alliance treaty with the Dutch and expelled the last of the Portuguese from Manado a few years later.

The Dutch East India Company or Verenigde Oost Indische Compagnie (VOC) built a fortress in Manado named Fort Amsterdam in 1658. As with regions in eastern Indonesia, Manado has undergone Christianization by Dutch missionaries, including Riedel and John Gottlieb Schwarz.

Fresh seafood is the famous in manado because the location of Manado which is close to the sea. Grilled Gala Shrimp and Grilled Spicy Grouper. That’s the favorite one in manado. A traditional manadonese soup mainly composed of broth, meat, and vegetables. Beef soto and chicken soto are omnipresent in various regions in Muslim-majority Indonesia, but we had never found pork soto. Kuah asam is also typical food of North Sulawesi. It feels fresh and nutritious course. Kuah asam broth in a can of fish boil, can use any fish, carp, tilapia, tuna, fish tude, roa raw fish, etc. But the most delicious used the fresh red snapper. Tinutuan or Bubur Manado: ingredients : Rice, Spinach, Cassava, Pumpkin, Kangkung (water spinach), Gedi (Hibiscus Manihot L), Corn. For toping, usualy used basil, and fried union. Manadonese usually took, Nike savory chips (the juvenile from Awaous melanocephalus fish/baby Goby) or fried Cakalang (Skipjack Tuna) as the side dish.

Nasi Kuning Or Yellow Rice: Nasi Kuning made from, rice cooked with coconut milk and turmeric to make it yellow and tasty. Nasi Kuning mixed with shredded cakalang fish, shredded beef, and some fried union or Potato as a topping. Usually, Manadonese eat it with boiled egg or fried tofu. If you want to have your meal somewhere, Nasi Kuning would be pack into some kind of palm leaf.

Panada: It is not just fried banana, but very interesting Manadonese people eating fried bananas with chili paste.

Klappertart: one of the favorite dessert from manado. Ingredients : Condensed milk, Sweet Young, Coconuts, Rhum, Vanilla Extract, Corn starch/Maizena, Cinnamon, Walnuts, Raisins or Cheese or Chocolate.
